Laurence Stephen Lowry

Laurence Stephen Lowry  was born in November 1887. He started drawing at the age of eight in 1903. Lowry in 1920 he developed his own unique style of creating painting out of street scenes, populated workers, housewives and children. Set against a backdrop of industrial buildings and terraced houses that had become the main focus of his personal style.

Lowry has been given places for his work like in MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art), the Tate gallery in London . (to name a few) furthermore the galleries in East Midlands show 100 limited edition prints by him.

Many of his works were made around the surrounding areas of Salford and in Salford.




About his Work
Lowry sold one of his paintings an industrial painting for 2.3 million pounds. Lowry started with drawing and then maintain a higher aspect and started to add and start using paintings and instead of placing out his full name he started naming his prints L.S Lowry.

A famous picture that was created by Lowery was The Old Town Hall and St Hilda's Church. It was made in 1959. It was given to MIMA in Middlesbrough and is stored in the collection section of the museum so that it's a limited addition to the gallery.. The whole image was created with oils on a canvas. the size of the image was made on a canvas the size of 40x29 cm.


The highest price of one of his paintings is 1.9 million pounds when 'Going To The Match' was sold in 1999. The profit of the paintings that Lowry has created are all drastically increasing with the sold rate of his work and how much his pieces are getting sold for. His paintings are made in the 20th Century. Most of his pictures were created with dab colors. He always seemed to pain in a mysterious, unpopular landscapes, brooding portraits, and the secret 'marionette' works (found after his death).
